Who Who Who (2024)
Where did you learn how you needed to be a man or a woman? How did you work out the boundaries between what was ok and what was strange or unexpected? Did your place, your position, your access allow you to experience what was natural to you or did you have to squeeze yourself into a space that seemed to be made for someone else?
Who Who Who are a series of works based on a feeling of being between. They are all situated in or around the same place - a bedroom with a window. There is a way to look inside and there is always someone outside.
The work started with this single image and then I extrapolated outwards. Looking for other ways to feel these feelings and other people to help me articulate different ways of describing these visuals. There are echos of other LGTBQ+ artists, people who also might have felt trapped between, and there is also a piece of music that came together once the visuals were completed.
There is mess in these images, there is confusion. There is nondisjunction and for that reason I think they are a success.
