Artist Statement

"...we have forgotten how to dream..."

Kuch is an interdisciplinary artist whose work weaves together digital and non-digital technologies.

His practice is an attempt to understand and document the complex emotions that swirl in our body-minds as we look for ways to feel seen and to belong. These experiences usually resist being looked at and so much of his practice is about listening to internal states like anxiety, shame or self-doubt.

Experimentation, glitches and remixing are core processes for Kuch. His mark making is often rough, imperfect and exploratory. For him, his sketchbook archive is a living body of knowledge, a shadow self and extracts often feature in his work.

Kuch holds a first-class BA in Creative Arts and an MSc in Creative Technologies (Distinction). He is a qualified psychiatrist and has held clinical, managerial, and educational roles, though he is not currently practising. He was the founding director and lead workshop facilitator of the Open Minds Project, now The Suryan Collective, a not-for-profit organisation supporting LGBTQIA+ people with South Asian heritage in the UK.
