Artist Statement

“...we have forgotten how to dream...”

Kuch's work explores thoughts and feelings that are usually kept hidden. His artistic practice grew from a habit of documenting conversations and situations in sketchbook journals. Over time, he has extended this practice into painting, music-making, and creative technologies. He makes work as a form of personal healing and reconciliation.

His aesthetic draws inspiration from dream work, liminality, and hauntology, informed by his deep knowledge of psychotherapy and mental illness. He holds a first-class BA in Creative Arts and an MSc in Creative Technologies (Distinction), and is comfortable working across digital and non-digital media.

Kuch is a qualified psychiatrist who has a variety of clinical, managerial and educational roles. He is not currently practising as a doctor.

He was the founding director and lead workshop facilitator of the Open Minds Project, which is now The Suryan Collective. A not for profit organisation supporting LGBTQIA+ people with South Asian heritage in the UK.

Kuch is also known as Kuljit.
